Explore the power of the in-between.

Free Artist Reception: Thursday, February 6, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame
Across Spaces, featuring the innovative works of OVAC Member, Irmgard Geul and Farooq Karim, explores experiences between physical, emotional, and conceptual spaces. Visitors are invited to contemplate the feeling of being “in between”. Geul’s airy embroidery paintings and Karim’s sculptural paper blossoms provide space for contemplating how to traverse divides and navigate changing circumstances. This collaborative exhibition illustrates the power of art as a vehicle for navigating seemingly evanescent moments and discovering commonalities that can bridge our divisions.

The ongoing collaboration between Geul and Karim with a shared love for paper and fiber began in 2021 and continues to evolve.

Irmgard Geul, a Netherlands-born artist based in Pauls Valley, combines hand-stitched embroidery with acrylic painted paper, creating landscapes that reflect her rural Oklahoma surroundings. Her work, influenced by nature and her mother's career in haute couture, evokes the tactile, sensory experience of the natural world.

Farooq Karim, a Norman-based artist, uses intricately cut and glued paper to create stunning flower sculptures. His work, inspired by personal growth and healing, explores beauty and transformation. Staring with the creation of individual flowers from old maps, magazines, and letters, his art captures the essence of nature's most vibrant

    • Tulsa Botanic Garden

Unfold the wonders of art and nature this spring and summer as Tulsa Botanic Garden hosts the Oklahoma debut of FLORIGAMI IN THE GARDEN, an exhibition of monumental sculptures by Santa Fe artists Jennifer and Kevin Box. The exhibit opens Sunday, March 2, 2025, when the Garden reopens for the year.

FLORIGAMI IN THE GARDEN showcases 20 installations of museum-quality metal sculptures inspired by origami, the centuries-old Japanese art of folding paper. The larger-than-life sculptures of blooming flowers, birds, grazing deer, galloping ponies, and other flora and fauna themes will be exhibited throughout the five formal gardens at Tulsa Botanic Garden. The Oklahoma debut will also premier three new pieces by Box, including a 17ft. tall kinetic sculpture of colorful butterflies that will “float” above floral displays.

Kevin Box grew up in Bartlesville, OK and graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. His work has received numerous awards and is held in prominent collections worldwide. In 2004, he was the youngest member ever elected to the National Sculptors' Guild.

FLORIGAMI IN THE GARDEN features Box’s own compositions as well as collaborations with his wife, Jennifer, and world-renowned origami artists Te Jui Fu, Beth Johnson, Michael G. LaFosse and Robert J. Lang.

The exhibit includes interpretive information and cast metal examples of origami pieces folded and unfolded. An audio tour is also available for guests to dial into and listen to the artists speak about the work as well as a scavenger hunt sheet.

FLORIGAMI IN THE GARDEN will be at Tulsa Botanic Garden through September 21, 2025. Admission to the Garden will include the exhibit and is free for Garden members. Find hours, admission and more information at tulsabotanic.org or by calling 918-289-0330.

    • Oklahoma State University Museum of Art

Founded in 1987, the Oklahoma State University’s Cimarron National Works on Paper is a juried exhibition that has been held biennially in the Department of Art, Graphic Design, and Art History’s Gardiner Gallery of Art from 1987 to 1995, with resurgences in 2019 and 2021.

2025 marks the first year the exhibition will be hosted by the Oklahoma State University Museum of Art. The Cimarron National Works on Paper is a testament to the history of printmaking at OSU, our current educational initiatives, the diverse holdings of works on paper in the OSU Museum of Art’s collection, and an expression of OSU's enduring commitment to works on paper and contemporary practice.

The exhibition will be on display in the Oklahoma State University Museum of Art. On view from August 19 to December 19, 2025, with a reception on Thursday, October 16, 2025.

    About the Museum Collection
The museum has a significant collection of works on paper, including a large suite of works by master printmakers Dole Reed and J. Jay McVicker. A major gift in 1985, from OSU alumnus Bill Goldston, of prints published by Universal Limited Art Editions were a foundational collection for the university. A recent gift of over 700 works on paper by Leon Polk Smith, one of the founders of the hard-edge style of minimal abstraction, is also housed in the museum's collection and serves as a major research archive.

This year’s juror is Amanda Lee, Assistant Professor of Printmaking and Drawing, Digital Emphasis, at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. A multidisciplinary artist, Lee specializes in printmaking, book arts, and photography: exploring Indigenous knowledge systems through her work.

Lee earned an MFA from Indiana University, Bloomington, and has held notable positions, including the Virginia A. Myers Visiting Professorship at the University of Iowa. Her accolades include a Huntington Library Fellowship, collaborative projects with Self Help Graphics in Los Angeles, and exhibitions in Scotland, Hong Kong, and Italy. She has also led workshops at Kent State, Loyola Marymount, and Penland School of Crafts, earning awards like an Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation grant and a City of Seattle public art commission.

    • 1515 Lincoln Gallery

This March, 1515 Lincoln Gallery presents Life in Black and White, a compelling group exhibition that explores diverse themes, styles, and mediums—unified through black-and-white or monochromatic compositions.

Curated by Serbian artist Bojan Grof, who is also featured in the show, the exhibition brings together artists with distinct perspectives, emphasizing the power of contrast and nuance. Gallery owner and director Susan McCalmont collaborated with Grof in developing the exhibition. Grof’s work critically examines contemporary cultural conditions, often addressing themes of social exclusion, freedom, poverty, and war. His monochromatic approach reflects on the human impact on wildlife and draws inspiration from everyday objects. The gallery is honored to have him as curator for this thought-provoking exhibition.

The idea for Life in Black and White emerged from conversations between McCalmont and Grof, who noticed many artists share a love for black-and-white work and saw an opportunity to unite them. "First, the main idea was to bring together artists working in black-and-white or monochromatic styles, whether on paper or canvas," Grof says. "Second, I wanted to balance male and female artists to contrast perspectives—the rational against the intuitive—and highlight the beauty of diversity. He continues, "Most people see life in black and white, while some recognize the complexity of gray. Living in black and white can create a false sense of security and control, whereas embracing shades of gray may bring uncertainty but also open the mind. Whether you come to explore the dialogue between black and white in these artworks or simply to enjoy unique contemporary art, this exhibition aims to reveal the beauty within contrast and nuance."

The selected artists, either represented by the gallery or part of its Found Art Collection, each bring unique and contrasting viewpoints. Yet, through the absence of color, their works find unity. Marc Barker creates stark yet poetic "cloudscapes," capturing the essence of clouds while infusing them with a sense of humanity. Chris Brizzard produces dynamic works that balance realism and abstraction, often depicting figures, animals, and landscapes with a visual sense of deconstruction. Josette Simon-Gestin crafts whimsical and dreamlike worlds, featuring women exploring expansive landscapes and seascapes. The exhibition also features works by Jon Burris, James Cobb, Katherine Liontas-Warren, Danny Joe Rose III, and more.

      About ArtPrize
ArtPrize is an international art competition and cultural festival held over sixteen days in Grand Rapids, Michigan — a celebration of ideas, conversation, experimentation, and inclusiveness.

Each year, ArtPrize welcomes nearly 800,000 visitors to discover the transformative power of art. Visitors can explore the works of thousands of artists from around the world as the city transforms into a canvas, with awe-inspiring sculptures, installations, paintings, and more displayed throughout Grand Rapids streets, parks, galleries, and restaurants.

In 2024, 1,005 artists created 887 pieces of art that were exhibited throughout 166 venues throughout the urban core of the city. Once again in 2025 ArtPrize will award over $400,000 in prizes and $200,000 in grants. These grants range from capacity-building seed grants to support Artists' participation in ArtPrize to five-figure commissioning grants to help artists achieve bold and ambitious projects to present at the event.

This is the headliner. The prize that gave ArtPrize its name. The nearly 800,000 visitors who experience ArtPrize do so not only as spectators but as judges. They drive the conversation. They cast their votes. From thousands of entries across six different categories, they choose the one artist whose work wows them—changing that artist's life forever. This is the Public Vote Grand Prize winner, receiving $100,000 in recognition of their time, talent, and effort, as chosen by the public... The public's vote will also award a $10,000 prize to one artist in each art category.

This opportunity is supported by Firehouse Art Center and the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition.

      Neuro-art
by Nichole Montgomery is a distinctive art form that uses free-flowing lines to express thoughts and feelings, welcoming anyone to explore their inner experiences, regardless of skill level. The focus is on the creative process rather than the final product, encouraging intuitive expression.

Participants only need to bring a pen; colored markers or pencils are optional. Nichole will provide dried watercolor on mixed media paper attached to a board, as well as a blank sheet after the first lesson.

Creating neuro-art helps relieve mental tension, reduce stress and anxiety, and fosters a relaxed mindset, much like getting lost in a good novel.

Special thanks to Steve Liggett of Liggett Studio in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for providing a welcoming space for art therapy. Everyone can join, regardless of age or experience.

Exploring Color & Light with Oil Painting
      Dana Lombardo
      October 10 & 11, 2025
      Friday & Saturday 9 - 4 PM
      $350/person

      Supply Listed at https://terrarosagallery.com/workshops

Join me to explore the essential foundations of light and color in painting. I will be demonstrating in oil, but other painting mediums are welcome.

Some experience in painting is required.

I will begin each morning and afternoon with a short lecture, a demo, hands-on painting, and individual instruction.

      On Day One:
In the morning, you will learn about color and light and how they affect values, color mixing, and light and shadow. I will discuss palette options and how to decide what to use in your painting. You will then use your color palette to create your color reference charts.

In the afternoon, I will demonstrate how to create a color card for the photo reference you will use in your painting and show techniques for starting a basic monochromatic underpainting of lights, middles, and darks. You will then finish your color charts/cards and start underpainting them from the photo reference.

      On Day Two:
In the morning, I will demonstrate how to start the color layer for the painting using what we learned the previous day. Following the demo, you will work on your painting with one-on-one instruction.

In the afternoon, I will demonstrate finishing techniques (scumbling, glazing, etc.), adding details, and how to critique your painting for adjustments. You will complete your painting with one-on-one instruction following the demo.

If time permits, we will have a group critique and review of your completed painting at the end of the second day.
