Every artist's career has a first wall. For five years, The Depot has been providing one for emerging artists from throughout Oklahoma. 

The Depot Gallery is now accepting applications for its 5th Annual Emerging Artists Show, an exhibition devoted entirely to local artists who have never had a gallery show. The call is open to any visual art that hangs on a wall, including painting, photography, printmaking, collage and more. A jury will select approximately 12 artists for the exhibition.

The show opens with the January 2027 2nd Friday Norman Art Walk and runs through the end of February 2027 in the gallery at Norman's historic 1929 Santa Fe Depot.

"I love that we get to see talented people in our community raise their voices in ways they maybe haven't before," said Joy Andrews, Gallery Manager at The Depot. "To me, Emerging Artists is our most important show, because voices that haven't had a platform finally get one. With education, patience and a defined structure, we create a pathway for these artists to join Oklahoma's larger community of artists."

Selected artists go through the full experience of a professional exhibition, from submission and jurying to installation and opening night, often for the first time. That experience tends to open doors. "We've seen the Emerging Artists Show give artists a foot in the door to apply and show elsewhere," said Danielle Tipton, The Depot's Programs Director.

Trinity Slough, a past Emerging Artists participant who now works at The Depot, put it simply: "As an emerging artist, I felt supported in ways I had not before."

Open Mic Night

We’re partnering with Make Oklahoma Weirder to invite performers of all disciplines and backgrounds to perform on Factory Obscura's Wonder Stage located inside the Mix-Tape immersive art experience.

Each month will have a theme artists can base their performance on. It is encouraged to interpret the theme in any way the performer sees fit. It is not required to adhere to the theme.

The theme for this month’s Open Mic is: Abundance

Only the Angst and Wonder rooms will be accessible during Open Mic Nights to keep the energy focused on the performances.

This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the art and history of direct animation, working directly with 16mm motion picture film and projection. Over four sessions, participants will explore this unique cinematic language by painting, scratching, masking, and physically manipulating 16mm leader and found footage to create your own animated film. Each participant will receive over 100 feet of film to work on, an HD digital scan of their finished project, and the skills needed to continue their filmmaking practice.

The Muskogee Art Guild invites regional artists and art enthusiasts to participate in its 2026 Fall Art Show & Sale, opening November 12 at 106 S. Main Street in Muskogee.

The judged exhibition will showcase original artwork in a variety of media and offer 15 award ribbons and $700 in cash prizes, including a $300 Best of Show award and $200 first-place awards in the Advanced and Emerging divisions.

Artist registration closes November 5 at 6 p.m. The public is invited to the opening reception on Thursday, November 12, from 5–7 p.m., with awards presented at 6 p.m. The exhibition continues through December 9.

Farm Studio International Artist Residency is located in a rural community in India. Residents stay and create in a quiet art centre and beautiful environment where they can develop their artwork free from accustomed distractions. Farm Studio residency provides three types of working spaces where artists can explore their art and ideas in the rural Rajasthani environment; at the Farm Studio indoor studios, the outdoor desert and farm environments, and in Andore Village. Relationships form between the artists coming from different countries and varied social, cultural, and artistic backgrounds. Many exciting exchanges and dialogues among artists take place, including scheduled artist talks, presentations, works in progress showings, final exhibitions, etc. Farm Studio also promotes and celebrates the local community’s artistic and cultural identity while also introducing art and culture of others’ (Indian and International guests) back to the community. This intercultural exchange broadens everyone’s experiences and fosters art appreciation.

Artists of all disciplines creating in any media are welcome to apply: dance, theatre, music, sound, performance art, writing, painting, drawing, printmaking, textiles, culinary, photography, video/film, animation, architecture, sculpture (any material), ceramics, pottery, mixed-media / multi-media, interdisciplinary, installation, and other new/alternative media. Researchers, curators, and art critics are also welcome to apply. Open to emerging and established artists.

A three-day virtual career development workshop for artists

Mastering a career as a working artist requires more than creativity and inspiration. For 17 years, Artist INC has boosted the careers of thousands of artists by providing building blocks for addressing business fundamentals and entrepeneurial challenges.

In February, Oklahoma artists can participate in a free three-day fast-tracked version of the program, Artist INC Express. Open to artists of all disciplines, the virtual, yet highly active, version will explore the same core concepts for building a lasting arts practice. The virtual program offers access that is ideal for rural and other artists with limited access to in-person professional development programs.

Funded by the Oklahoma Arts Council and Mid-America Arts Alliance (M-AAA), the Artist INC Express workshop will be led by a team of experienced, working artists who guide participants through discussions, small group work, and hands-on exercises.

During the workshops, artists will set goals for their practice, write about their work, and build a personal brand, coming away from the experience with an artist bio and statement, plus a resume or CV template. Participants will gain a community of peers that can offer support, resource sharing, and collaborative opportunities long after the program ends.

Artist INC Express features three-hour sessions that take place over three days. Artists are asked to commit to the entire nine-hour workshop, as exercises build on one another and foster deeper connections among artists.
